What Documents Matter in a Loan Settlement?
One of the most dangerous errors in debt resolution is making payments based on oral assurances from field recovery agents or unauthenticated WhatsApp messages.
A legally binding settlement requires: 1) A formal settlement sanction letter printed on official bank/NBFC letterhead with a verifiable reference number; 2) Confirmation of the beneficiary account being the direct loan account of the borrower; 3) A stamped acknowledgement receipt; and 4) A definitive No Dues Certificate.
Failing to secure proper written documentation often leads to the settlement amount being treated merely as partial payment toward accrued penalty interest, leaving principal debt intact.
